Big Jets

‘Flying Big Jets’ Begins

The ‘Flying Big Jets’ project had its inception in a discussion I had with my son regarding a university assignment. The assignment addressed the impacts of social media and the issues of consistent branding. This led to the ‘Flying Big Jets’ suite of social media identities being obtained; more as an inadvertent outcome than a planned result.  And … that was the end of the discussion.

Several years on; and as an airline pilot, the owner of several ‘warbird’ aircraft, an amateur (but enthusiastic) photographer, and an inevitable traveller; the ‘Flying Big Jets’ concept has been reinvigorated.  As every time I post on my personal social media, to my small group of friends, aspects of my flying or travel it gets significant attention and comment, I thought a broader audience may appreciate it, or at least be interested.

The plan is to bring you snippets of what I do and what I see. As an airline pilot I get to have a rather different perspective to most travellers. I hope to bring to you some of the beauty I regularly see, and some of the technical aspects of airline operations. I’ll also introduce you to the fun of zipping around in a high-performance small aircraft.  Inexorably travelling, I get to visit many places, often regularly and repeatedly.  As a consequence, I seek out the new and the unique experiences each location has to offer. Hopefully there’ll be something in there that interests you also.

Having been an airline pilot for over 23 years (and an Air Force pilot for 12 years before that) there is a bit of catching up to do.  I will mix up ‘blasts from the past’ with my latest exploits as I irregularly apprise you of my adventures.  The order may be a bit random and erratic at the beginning (and possibly well into the future!).

I am not an IT or social media guru. There will be errors and faux pas. Please be kind in your comments and constructive in your criticism.  The idea is to have fun and learn.  I hope you enjoy the journey.
